An angel graces our ornament for today, Christmas Eve.
How appropriate it is that we hang an image of this heavenly being on the Advent tree. Zimmerman uses Luke 2: 9-11, “An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.’”
When I was a young girl I thought it would be amazing to have an angel appear to me. What a story that would be to share at school!
Now, the idea is petrifying. I am not accustomed to having a Divine Being visit me. I noticed that the angel, right away, says that she is bringing good news. Sometimes the angel brings news that is difficult to grapple with: your wife is pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Or asks a life-changing question: would you like to be the Mother of God?!
I bring you news of great joy! That is what I want to take in today. It is busy at my house and this is how I prefer it. I love it when the kids come home.
I just need a few seconds in front of one of my crèche sets, breathing deeply, and taking in the Joy of this good news!
Today, as you bustle around with your family, try to do some of it mindfully. Enjoy those God has given you to celebrate with!
